This past weekend may have come to a close, but we're still dreaming about Olivia Palermo's unconventional yet impossibly chic wedding-day ensemble. The shorts! The jutting tulle skirt overlay! The creamy cashmere sweater! Everything about this layered look is as trend-setting as it is unique.

And though she may be the first star to walk down the aisle in shorts, Olivia isn't the first celebrity to say "I do" in something nontraditional. Several boundary-pushing stars have skipped the all-white look, and instead opted for a colorful wedding dress.

While Olivia may have stuck to a classic cream, we know the street-style star would approve of fully-saturated dresses (which, FYI, have also been super popular on recent bridal runways!). From Kaley Cuoco's recent petal Vera Wang gown to Jessica Biel's pink Giambattista Valli number and Keira Knightley's blush Chanel (which she's re-worn a handful of times), plenty of Hollywood's A-listers have expressed their personal style with color.

Yet this tradition of bending the bridal rules is nothing new for celebs — Sofia Coppola wore a perfectly understated lilac Azzedine Alaïa dress in 2011, Gwen Stefani's rocked a dip-dyed John Galliano custom dress back in 2002 (10-plus years before ombre became a big bridal player), and even Elizabeth Taylor beamed in canary yellow chiffon frock when she married on-again-off-again-love Richard Burton for the first time in 1964.

Just Married? Here Are 3 Pieces of Advice Every Newlywed Couple Should Know

Weddings signify the start of a new life, which means it presents a lot of overwhelming questions! Just because the wedding cake has been cut and the dress has been put away in storage doesn't mean all of your etiquette problems are over. We consulted some experts to get answers to some of married life's toughest conundrums.

How often is too often for my in-laws to visit?
Only you and your husband can answer that question (though we can tell you multiple daily unannounced drop-ins à la Everybody Loves Raymond is almost never OK.) Talk to your husband about how often you feel comfortable seeing your in-laws and what kind of boundaries you want to set in place (like a phone call before every visit). Then ask him to lay down the law. Do keep in mind that no matter how inconvenient or annoying you may find these people, your husband loves them, and he may not want to curtail his family time. If that's the case, feel free to take yourself out of the equation during some of their visits by running an errand or meeting up with the girls for drinks while they bond with their boy. BTW, always be nice. If you have kids one day, you're going to be psyched to have your in-laws around. (Free babysitting!)

My husband is a homebody, and I love to go out. Is it OK for me to attend social outings solo? He's told me he's fine with it.
Go for it. Having experiences and hobbies outside of your marriage can actually strengthen a relationship. But remember, you're married, so don't spend all your time away from home. Put a limit on your solo evenings out and check in with him often to make sure that he's not feeling totally abandoned. And set up a weekly date night to make sure that the two of you are getting enough one-on-one time. P.S. You don't have to let him totally off the hook; there will be some social and business outings you'll want him to attend. Just give him plenty of notice so he can psych himself up for them ahead of time.

Should I force my husband to wear his wedding ring?
Hmmm. Forcing him to do anything is probably not the best way to kick off married life. Instead, try talking to your husband about why he isn't wearing his ring. Maybe he's not great at remembering to put it on in the morning. (Solution: Have him put it in a bowl next to his keys.) Maybe it makes his finger itch. (Take him to a dermatologist.) Or maybe he has a side job as a Prince William impersonator. (Not much you can do about that; Kate's better half, like many Brits, doesn't wear one, either.) But if it turns out that he just plain old doesn't want to wear it, ask him to explain why. If he starts stuttering something about his friends and identity crises and feeling like he's looking at his dad's hand when he's wearing it, you may have a bigger problem on your hands. Tell him that you love him and that you get that it can be tough making the transition from single to married but that he is married, and not wearing the ring isn't going to change that. In fact, wearing a big fat golden reminder of your union every day may just help him ease into his new role. Then make an appointment with a couples counselor, stat.

On Saturday June 28th, 2014, Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo tied the knot, surrounded by family, friends, lawyers, activists, celebrities, and all sorts of media. Not your average wedding guest list, but then again, Paul and Jeff's wedding wasn't your average celebration. The two grooms have spent years in the headlines as two of the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court case that overturned California Proposition 8 and paved the way for same-sex marriage in the state. Jeff and Paul were officially wed on June 28, 2013, at Los Angeles City Hall by Mayor Antonio Villariagosa, but didn't want to stop there. "We were superstitious, and didn't talk about our wedding during the case," Paul exclusively tells Brides. "But a few months after we won the case, we knew we needed to celebrate the momentous decision — and our love — with all our family and friends." They used the case, and now their wedding, to show the world that #lovewins and to spread a message about equality and equal rights for all.

Jesse from Our Labor of Love gave us a behind-the-scenes look at Jeff and Paul's gorgeous wedding. Here are a few exclusive snaps from inside their cocktail hour and private dinner.

A year to the day after their civil union, Paul and Jeff hosted a breathtaking cocktail hour and dinner for 150 guests in the Beverly Hilton's Stardust Penthouse, then wed (and partied) by the pool in front of 220. "The Beverly Hilton was such a force," says Jeff. "They embraced us, our family, our friends, and the LGBT community. They're so committed to equality, and there's nowhere else we could imagine being on our wedding day."

An amazing team came together to bring the party to life: Stacey Ruiz and Jason Harder of Shiraz Events partnered with Luna Gardens Events to design and produce an elegant, masculine, and totally breathtaking event, from cocktails on the roof to an intimate dinner to the late-night poolside bash.

"We told them what we like, and they ran with it," say the grooms. "It was more than we could possibly have dreamed."

Can't get enough of the sleek design, gorgeous flowers, or amazing love story? Stay tuned to Brides.com — we'll be sharing even more exclusive photos, heartwarming details, incredible vendors, and more of Paul and Jeff's amazing story later this week!

3 Things Every Bride Can Learn from This Destination Wedding in Maui, Hawaii

One of the biggest challenges in deciding whether to have a destination wedding is figuring out how to involve your family and friends. The challenge was particularly hard for Kimberly Harrigan, 28, and Justin Kingsbury, 30, who jetted to Maui, Hawaii, for their wedding on November 18th, 2013. "Justin knows how important family is to me, so when he proposed, he asked my dad, my three brothers, and my oldest nephew for my hand in marriage," says Kimberly. But the couple came up with a creative way to involve guests beyond the 30 who joined them in Hawaii, as well as two more ideas we absolutely love. Karma Hill captured the details so Justin and Kimberly could share their wedding with family, friends, and now brides-to-be worldwide.

Involve everyone you love
How did the couple share their wedding day with friends and family around the world? "We streamed the ceremony via web cam!" reveals the bride. "I was unsure if people would want to watch the ceremony on their computers from far away, but I was so excited to hear that people were going to get together and have viewing parties!" Guests from all over the world logged in to be a part of the wedding, even though they couldn't be there in person

Keep the memories close
The bride's bouquet was a mix of green cymbidium orchids and white roses. The stems were wrapped with white ribbon, and finished with a picture of Kimberly's late grandmother. "On the way to the ceremony, we realized I'd forgotten the picture," Kimberly says. "We had to go back and get it, which was so fitting. My grandma was always late, and always making other people late, so of course she made me late on my wedding day!"

Justin wore his late grandfather's cufflinks and carried his pocket watch. He added his photo inside the watch to have his grandfather by his side.

Embrace your location
Instead of escort cards, Kimberly and Justin had the guests' table assignments written on a surfboard. "It added a little extra Hawaii flavor," she says.

So how do Justin and Kimberly feel about their slightly unconventional wedding choice? "We were so glad to be able to share the wedding with everyone, even if they couldn't be there in person," she says. "We did what would make the day special for us. There will always be people with different ideas, but it's your day, so make it what you want!"

Lena Dunham’s Latest Role: Bridesmaid! See Photos from Her BFF’s Wedding

Everyone's favorite Girls girl, Lena Dunham, played role as gal pal number one expertly this weekend — she was a bridesmaid at BFF Isabel Halley's wedding!

From the looks of Dunham and Co.'s instagram posts, the wedding was a Midsummer Night's Dream theme (the occasion's hashtag was even #inthesewoods!). Each bridesmaid wore a slate grey dress, with varying hemlines, necklines, and sleeves. One thing that unified each Reformation design, though, was a gorgeous criss-crossed open back!

Above, a group shot of the entire bridal party, of which, Dunham writes: "For those asking, our bridesmaid dresses were from @reformation and I found them charming, breathable and stylish. We can thank the beautiful bride, Isabel Bramlette Halley, for her good taste."

Here's an adorable photo of the 'maid's sweetly tied backs.

Dunham's dress in particular was floor-length, with a high Angelina-esque slit and cap-sleeves (you can find the style Dunham wore, called "Barrymore" here).

Close gal pal Audrey Gelman (whose even made a cameo in Girls!) posted a hilarious picture of Dunham and two other 'maids raising their bouquets to the sky and rocking sunglasses:

The HBO wunderkind also shared a super-sweet photo of her childhood friend, the bride Isabel (she notes that they met 28 years ago), and her. Both girls' hairstyles are gorgeous — Dunham flaunted a braided updo, while the bride had a romantic half-up, half-down 'do with a bundle of rustic flowers holding the whole look together.

Dunham ended the steady stream of celebratory pictures with a glimpse at their bridesmaid gifts, crisp white pajamas with each bridesmaids' initials monogrammed onto the front pocket.

We wonder if Dunham will also be a bridesmaid at co-star Allison William's pending nuptials. Now, if only Dunham and boyfriend of two years, musician Jack Antonoff, would get engaged ...

Wedding Horoscope

This week there's an opposition between the planets Mars and Uranus. What does that mean? Well, Mars is the God of War, and Uranus traditionally brings about freaky and unexpected circumstances. "Combine that energy with all of the attention that goes into planning a wedding, and you've got a recipe for a few blowups," points out Hilary Young of Astrologydating.com. "Understand your circumstances though, and as they say 'keep calm and carry on,' and you'll be able to pull everything off." Below, Hilary's horoscopes for the week:

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Parental and authority figures may be particularly vexing this week. Calmly stake out your territory and gently stand on it. Last minute clashes with your significant other can be resolved with a little diplomacy.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
You may find yourself running in a hundred different directions at once this week. Prioritize your time and put one foot in front of the other, and you'll get there on time. Your mate may not be as helpful as you'd like, though.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Sure, there are still plenty of details to take care of yet, but don't let your fears about them make you paranoid. You have a better grip on things than you realize. Take the time to take care of yourself. You're wearing a bit thin.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Your secret weapon this week will be your ability to maintain good cheer. Smiling and nodding in general agreement and then doing things your way any way is a viable strategy. Learn to enjoy the spotlight.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
You may find some drama flaring up in unexpected situations. Don't let that throw you off, and don't let it distract you from what your real priorities should be right now. Have some fun with your significant other. You deserve it.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
The comfort and support of others can be a tremendous help at any time but most especially now. You have resources at your disposal you may not even be aware of. Your mate may seem frazzled by it all. However, don't let that throw you off!

Libra (September 23 - October 22)
No, you weren't imagining it: Things are pretty hectic for you this week. Just relax and be your lovely self and everything should turn out just fine, provided you managed to stick to your budget.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
This week, you may find yourself wondering why you put up with so much nonsense in your life. Get in touch with your higher self and your higher purpose, and the details will sort themselves out. Keep a particular eye on financial matters.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Normally you are pretty independent, but let's remember that you aren't alone in all of this, okay? Your closest friends can be especially helpful this week. Your mate may be a surprising source of ideas and inspiration.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
The big focus for you this week is on partnership, and not just because you're getting married. Your mate might seem a little restless with things, but it will pass. Take some quiet time for yourself, and you'll be rewarded with better results.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
There are a thousand little details to pin down for a wedding, but it's that thousand and first one that always seems to get you. Make that list, and check it twice! Don't fret over last-minute complications, just deal with them.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Relax. Seriously, just relax. This is a good week for it, and things will get crazier later on, so you'll thank me later if you give yourself a break this week. You may need to stop and remind yourself of what's most important to you and what isn't.

Ciara Brides August/September Cover

It's been one busy year for Ciara. First, her rapper boyfriend of almost two years Future proposed to her with a whopping 15-carat engagement ring. Then, she announced she was pregnant and just one month ago she gave birth to an adorable baby boy, Future Jr. And now, the "Body Party" singer is opening up about all of her recent personal milestones in our August/September issue!

Ciara graces our new cover in a long-sleeve embroidered Chantilly lace Reem Acra gown, accessorized with her very own blinding bridal bling and bracelet. A simply-chic bouquet of cream garden roses, crafted by Miho Kosuda, plus soft, natural makeup by Urban Decay and effortless blonde waves tied the entire aisle-ready look together.

Inside the issue, Ciara dishes all about Future, motherhood, and, of course, her wedding plans. The singer admitted she "loved" the classic dress she rocks on our cover, which is surprising since she's known for her daring red carpet looks. "My everyday style is what I call 'tomboy chic,'" Ciara tells us. "But for my wedding, I'm going to do elegance with a little edge."

As for her fiancé, she let it slip that she always knew she'd spend forever with Future. When asked when she knew he'd be her husband, she replied: "Very early on. He came with something that I'd never felt before: the true presence of a man."

That's all we're revealing for now! For more Ciara scoop (and to see more pics of the star wearing stunning wedding gowns!), you'll have to pick up our August/September issue, on newsstands nationwide July 8.

Pippa Middleton Finally Opens Up About Her Infamous Bridesmaid Dress!

Celebrity Weddings, Royal Wedding  Comments Off on Pippa Middleton Finally Opens Up About Her Infamous Bridesmaid Dress!

Pippa Middleton shot to international fame the second she stepped out of the limo for the Royal Wedding on April 29, 2011, in her white, body-hugging Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress. Though stepping into the spotlight to help her older sister Kate marry Prince William that day might have frayed a few nerves, Pippa instead says that the gravity of it all didn't hit until later.

"It sounds funny to say," she told Matt Lauer on the Today Show this morning during her first-ever U.S. television interview, but, "We saw it as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn't realize, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards."

"We all took on the roles as any family would," she continued. It wasn't until she saw the TV cameras and thousands of people from Buckingham Palace's balcony, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared their first public kiss that she realized, "Wow, this is pretty special."

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

At least she was able to keep her stress levels down before the big day! Not only that, but she shrugged off the hoopla over her now-infamous bridesmaid dress. "You know," she said, "I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress. Really just to sort of blend in with the [wedding dress] train."

It did many things, but we can't say it blended in. Regardless, it's not exactly in the forefront of Pippa's current life. "It's actually still in my wardrobe at home...I think it's the sort of thing that I'm sure I'll bring out if someone wanted to see it or my children one day want to see it. Then I'll show them."

10 (Stylish) Ways to Spread the News About Your Wedding Hashtag

Jun 302014

Have you come up with a custom hashtag for your wedding? If you haven't, start thinking of one — it's such an easy way to gather all your guests' snapshots from your wedding day in one place. Plus, you'll get to experience your nuptials through the eyes of your guests.

Once you've come up with a unique hashtag (be sure to check if it's already been used before! After all, you don't want your wedding photos jumbled together with someone else's event!), you'll want to announce it to your guests in a clever way. If you're early in the wedding-planning process, you could include it in your save-the-date, wedding website and invitation. Then, at the wedding, you could print it in your ceremony program or frame a sign and place it on the welcome table — the possibilities are endless. Here are 10 fun ways to spread the social-media word.

Create a vignette: Be sure to station your signage in a spot where guests can't miss it — like the entrance to the ceremony and/or reception. Props like a vintage camera on display will also help catch their eye.

When it comes to an engagement ring, a classic diamond will always be the favorite. But lately bolder options are giving the traditional stone a run for its money. Case in point: colorful engagement rings. From sapphire and ruby to quartz and pink diamonds, the standard bridal bling is being redefined.

One of our favorite trendy stones? Sapphires. A sapphire engagement ring is simply stunning — paired with diamonds or on its own. Plus, there's a blue sparkler for any style of bride, from modern to classic and vintage to romantic.

And we're not the only big fans of the true-blue jewel: Celebs like Jenna Bush, Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Mills, and, of course, Kate Middleton, all rock a sapphire on that very important finger.

But if you don't want to give up the timeless diamond ring, consider one of these gorgeous baubles as your "something blue" for your walk down the aisle. Also, sapphires are the traditional 45th anniversary gift, but we doubt you'll want to hold out that long for one of these gems.

And, really, if it's good enough for Kate, it's good enough for us!
