Droves of designers from across the pond showed during Bridal Fashion Week this season. We asked six of them to dish on their collections, their dream clients, and their favorite places to see, shop, and stay in NYC. Below, London-Based (but U.S. born!) Elizabeth Stuart tells us about her wedding dress collection and how her grandmother's favorite saying influences her aesthetic.

Brides: Tell me about the first wedding gown you designed.

Elizabeth Stuart: The first wedding gown I ever designed was for a friend who wanted something different...and she didn't want white! We used beautiful French lace embroidered with crystals and beading, and it was such a special experience. When the doors opened on her wedding day and everyone saw how beautiful she looked, I knew that moment was life changing for her—and for me. It confirmed that I wanted to design bridal.

Brides: What are your favorite bridal trends?

Elizabeth Stuart: I love sleeves! They can really make a dress romantic. Some of the great beauties of eras gone by incorporated sleeves into their wedding dresses (Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor) and they certainly got it right! We use both solid silk sleeves and lace sleeves in our collections. Peplums are fun as well. Not only are they very feminine and girly, but they can enhance a bride's natural shape, in such a flattering way.

Brides: What makes your collection unique?

ES: Quality. Almost all of our dresses are 100% silk, including the linings. My grandmother always said "beauty is what's on the inside."

Brides: Would you have a destination wedding if you could do your big day over again?

ES: I would definitely consider it! My husband and I love to travel and we are lucky because our 1 year old actually likes to fly as well...fingers crossed this continues! Destination weddings allow the couple to really focus on each other and that is most important. Plus I have always said I would love to wear our Ambrosia dress, a two-piece gown with an amazing silk georgette skirt, and beaded top. I could see getting married on a warm beach barefooted with my nearest and dearest there.

Brides: Tell me about your White Label Collection—how does it differ from your other collections?

ES: When we started the brand the majority of the dresses were larger, a bit more contemporary, and always constructed with the finest fabrics/silks/laces. We saw an increased demand for our slim-line dresses, and brides began to special order more silhouette focused dresses, so we launched a small collection of only six dresses. Brides loved it! The collection has grown and brides can find elements that are very traditional to very casual chic.

Brides: You mentioned that you love the Impressionists—does art ever influence your gowns?

ES: Of course! The masterpieces they created can influence one's life on so many levels. The use of colour and dimension definitely influences our gowns—and Degas's ballerinas just make me smile. So beautiful!

Brides: Tell me about your experience showing in New York for the first time during this past bridal market!

ES: It was amazing! The industry really welcomed us with open arms. There were boutiques in town from all over the world, and each one with different elements they were looking for to show their brides this season. We were very flattered that we seemed to offer what so many of them were looking for.

Using dramatic silhouettes and delicate fabrications, the Fall 2014 Kenneth Pool wedding dress collection solidified its stance as the most glamorous (and most sparkly) line in bridal designer Amsale Aberra's arsenal. Standout details included Alençon lace halters, voluminous tiers of tulle, detachable trains, plunging low backs, and bead and jewel-encrusted bodices.

From the designer's inspiration statement:

"Always daring, always sexy, the Kenneth Pool woman shows her abounding confidence and dramatic flair with an intelligent blend of boldness. Lace takes center stage this season with a fluid and modern edge, adorning halter necklines and sensual fit and flare silhouettes. Glamour is achieved through shape and mixing fabrications, as sweeping detachable trains create volume and depth, while Alençon lace bodice's are daringly low and bare. Signature brilliance is still a defining element, although with a softer and more delicate hand. Miniature seed beads, luxe silk embroidery thread and Lochrosen crystals add a sexy polish to the collection."

Brides: Is this the first time you are showing in New York?

Elizabeth Stuart: Yes! Before moving to England with my husband, I lived here. And any New Yorker knows that no matter where you go this city will always hold a place in your heart.

Brides: How long have you been in the biz?

ES: We launched at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, January 2011. But I designed one-off pieces for friends long before starting the brand.

Brides: Describe your bride.

Carolina Herrera designed her Fall 2014 wedding dress collection with party-ready brides in mind. After attending numerous weddings where the bride immediately slipped out of her ball gown and into a shorter shift, the designer wanted to a create a collection that exclusively consisted of cocktail and tea-length dresses.

"I wanted to design unique options for every event surrounding a bride's wedding from the rehearsal dinner to the reception," Herrera said. "A bride's wedding style should be a reflection of her personality... it's the moment where she can feel her most beautiful."

Just because the hem lengths are shorter doesn't mean these dresses created with any less detail. Herrera's signature craftsmanship and structured femininity—including Chantilly lace appliqués, intricate beadwork, and even feather trims—was apparent in each piece. Plus, more traditional brides will be able to order full-length versions of a few of the dresses shown.
