This month, BRIDES chose fashion photographer Max Montgomery out of thousands who entered a competition to shoot the magazine's cover.

For this issue, BRIDES teamed up with Wix.com to give one photographer the opportunity of a lifetime — the chance to shoot the cover of BRIDES magazine. Wix.com is a leading online platform that makes it easy for everyone to create a beautiful, professional Web presence, with special tools and advanced features for photographers.

Thousands submitted their online Wix port folios for the chance to win, and after poring over a wide range of submissions, creative director Jenifer Walter and her team chose Max Montgomery (maxmontgomeryphoto.com), a 27-year-old British lensman based in New York and L.A., as the winner.

Montgomery's father was a photographer who bought him his first camera when he was 13. "At 18, I started working as an intern for Mario Testino," says Montgomery, whose time with the legendary fashion photographer changed his life: "That's when I knew this is what I wanted to do," he says. A background in fashion photography is something Brides looks for when choosing who to work with, so Montgomery's experience is part of what made him a good fit. Also, working on a shoot that involves a big crew is ideal for Montgomery. Asked about the most important consideration when taking photos, he replied, "The team you work with. You are only as good as your team."

Have you peeped the cover of our October/November 2016 issue yet? This month's issue of BRIDES is all about updating classics, and our cover shoot screams rustic Americana.

Planning a countryside wedding with wild west influences? Look no further than this expansive and gorgeous Colorado setting. (Styling by Eleanor Strauss. Hair by Eric Gabriel using Oribe/the Wall Group. Makeup by Valery Gherman using Rouge Dior/the Wall Group. Production by Picture Farm. Bouquet by New Leaf Designs. Mikado gown, $1,869, .co.uk">Ellis Bridals. Jacket, L.L. Bean; llbean.com. Earrings, David Yurman. Ring, Cartier.)

And who better to model nouveau rustic styles than Victoria's Secret model, and newlywed, Bridget Malcolm. The Australian stunner said "I do" to rocker husband Nathaniel Hoho (who fronts the indie rock band Walking Shapes), in July in rural Pennsylvania, where loved ones gathered on the groom's mother's property. "It was a true country wedding," says Bridget, the face of brands like Polo Ralph Lauren and Lilly Pulitzer, who walked the aisle in a body-hugging lace gown from Australian label Lover. "We kept it rustic and light, mostly outdoors, surrounded by trees and under café lights. We wanted to see the sunset and fireflies."

The couple will say celebrate again near Perth this December — which happens to be summer in Australia. "We thought it would be nice to celebrate in each town we grew up in," says the bride. "Not to mention, two parties! Always a good thing." Given her own wedding style, the model looked right at home in exquisite Guipure lace, silk-organza, and cozy wool blankets. (Silk-organza and reembroidered-lace gown, $9,020, Rivini by Rita Vinieris. Earrings, David Yurman. Ring, Danhov. Blanket, Woolrich.)

Of course this is the wild west, so there's also room for a saloon-inspired sophisticated take on off-the-shoulder with exaggerated bow accents, courtesy of Sachin & Babi, long-sleeved crochet styles topped with shearling, high-neck Victorian styles, and even a little bandana neck wrap for a stylish cowgirl vibe. (Italian-stretch-jacquard dress, $2,695, Sachin & Babi Noir Bridal. Guipure dress with flower appliqués, price upon request, Mira Zwillinger. Poncho, Dsquared2 . Ring, In Love by Brides; walmart.com.)

(Crochet and embroidered-horsehair dress, $5,545, Yolan Cris. Jacket, Carven; 646-684-4368. Faille de soie dress with sheer silk-organza bodice with French-lace hand appliqu??s, $4,620, Amsale. Blanket, Woolrich.)

Even more epic than the straight-from-the-runway dresses, the amazing backdrop — ideal for a destination wedding! The Dunton Hot Springs, a 19th-century mining town turned western-chic resort an hour from Telluride in the Colorado Rockies, served as the perfect rustic background to show off classic wedding dress styles. Expect authentic log-cabin rooms, a saloon for dining, and a separate eight-tent glamping retreat, the River Camp, which is your Ralph Lauren fantasy come true, with draped canvas walls, cowhide rugs, gas stoves, and oversize soaking tubs. Brides can buy the whole resort out for up to 60 guests and exchange vows under a rustic wooden pergola surrounded by grassy hills (or snow, if you're brave). The 1,600 acres of preserved wilderness are prime for guided hikes, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and many a dip in the resort's five namesake springs—one in the spa and others right outside the guest rooms, like nature's hot tubs. (Three-quarter-sleeved button-down pleated cotton dress, $4,490, Carolina Herrera; 212-249-6552. Earrings, David Yurman. Ring, Bulgari. Bandanna, stylist's own.)

Uh-oh! We hate to break it ya, but no matter how meticulously you plan all those wedding day details, sometimes something can still manage to go wrong. Whether that one groomsman takes too many pre-ceremony shots or the wedding cake takes a dive, big day disasters can — and do — happen. But as the BRIDES October/November 2016 issue proves, brides-to-be can survive any catastrophe. (Trust us!) In our latest issue, real brides are sharing their wedding nightmares — from a groom landing in jail the night before the "I do's" to a big day E.R. visit. But don't worry, everyone still had their happily ever after. See? Brides can handle anything!

Our advice? Try not to stress about potential big day mishaps. After all, all that stress could seriously impede your gorgeous bridal glow. An easy fix? Heading to the detox havens in our latest issue. These posh wellness retreats are filled with workout classes, healthy meals, and luxe spa treatments that'll get your pre-wedding beauty regimen in check for the big day. Why not bring your bridesmaids along for the healthiest and most relaxing bachelorette party, like, ever?

Sound expensive? Well, you'll definitely have some cash to spare after following our seven tips for getting the wedding you want for less — including how real brides sealed the deal and negotiated for the best price with their wedding vendors.

And that's not all you'll find in our October/November 2016 issue. We're showing you how to freshen up the classics, from gorgeous gowns, beautiful blooms, blinged-out engagement rings, and modern bridal updos that are anything but your grandma's beehive.

Something even yummier?

Our covergirl this issue is Victoria's Secret model Bridget Malcolm, who recently tied the knot with her musician sweetheart in a rustic and light alfresco affair. She looked just so darn beautiful in her body-hugging lace wedding dress, we just had to see her in a few more!

Behind-the-scenes With Nicole Trunfio at Our August/September 2016 Cover Shoot

Have you spotted the cover of our new August/September 2016 issue yet? Get ready to "awwww" at the adorable snap of model — and newlywed — Nicole Trunfio (clad in one of our favorite Amsale wedding dresses) and her too cute son Zion. (Faille de soie ball gown, price upon request, Amsale; Earrings and bracelet, De Beers; Ring worn throughout, Nicole's own)

We caught up with the model, and new mom, for a day of wedding dress trials in Calabasas, California, just ahead of her epic desert wedding to rock star Gary Clark Jr. — and she brought along a super cute visitor to set — her one-year-old son Zion! Trunfio got down to the business of looking amazing while test-driving some breezy bridal looks, while Zion got down to being a sweet toddler gushing at his beautiful mama. (Silk-Mikado gown with side pockets and plunging V-back, $4,990, Carolina Herrera; Earrings and bracelet, Tiffany & Co.)

Even though she had already found her dress, Trunfio of course loved slipping on these fresh-from-the-runway wedding gowns (J. Mendel, Mark Zunino, Oscar de la Renta, oh my!). "Some of the gowns I saw on set I never saw when i was shopping," she told us. "My reception dress might have been different if I had done this first!" But according to Trunfio her ceremony dress was a no-brainer — she walked down the aisle in a figure-hugging beaded ball gown from Steven Khalil, complete with a plunging neckline and lengthy train. "This moment everyone talks about when they find the dress? As skeptical as I was about it, it happened to me. It was so epic. I couldn't take it off for two hours!" Now THAT's how you know you've found the one! For the poolside reception Trunfio slipped into a boho Yolan Cris gown. (Embroidered lace dress with illusion neckline, $4,300, Yolan Cris available at Kelinfeld; Bracelets, Karma El Khalil available at roseark.com; Silk-faille two-piece dress with cutours and open bow back, price upon request, Austin Scarlett; Earrings and bracelet, Tiffany & Co.)

The natural mountain setting couldn't have been more perfect for the natural beauty, who shined in a barely-there makeup look and loosely-waved or easily-braided tresses for the shoot. Looking to recreate Trunfio's glowing bridal beauty look created by makeup artist Vanessa Scali? Try this makeup by Maybelline New York: Dream Fresh 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector, Fit Me! Bronzer, Eye Studio Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon in Bronze Truffle, Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil, the Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara, and Color Sensational the Buffs Lip Color in Nude Lust. (Strapless silk-faille ball gown with pleated skirt and corded pansy lace, $7,899, and silk-organza halter-neck tie-back blouse, $1,3900, Oscar de la Renta available at Mark Ingram Atelier; Earrings and bracelet, Tiffany & Co.)

The jewelry was also kept simple on Trunfio — after all that much new-mom glow doesn't need any extra sparkle! A couple of statement earrings added a dash of style, but for the most part a timeless tennis bracelet, and diamond studs was all it took to get Trunfio — who wore only her engagement ring for her own big day jewelry — wedding-ready.

The result is an Instagram-worthy wedding venue that we're revealing the secrets behind. Scared of the sticker shock behind these matrimony masterpieces? No worries — just stay true to our 53 fool-proof ways to save those all-important wedding dollars, and you won't have to give up one darling detail of your dream day.

And don't forget: With the sun shining oh-so-brightly on your big day, you'll need wedding day attire to match. Fancy a veil that blows in the saltwater-infused breeze of your seaside "I do's?" Or wondering just how to make that headpiece of lace and tulle — the most classic of all bridal accessories — feel modern and cool? Well, we're rethinking the veil rules of the weddings of yesteryear and making the traditional headpiece a modern must-have, fit for longer days, warmer nights, and a laid-back vibe. BRIDES Private Access: Behind the Scenes with Our First Bride-to-Be, Emily

Apr 042016

Here at BRIDES, we live, breathe, and dream weddings — and sharing our tips and tricks to planning the perfect day is the core of what we do. That's why we were so excited to kick off our first bridal guest in the BRIDES fashion closet — as part of our new BRIDES Private Access, an expert wedding style consultation service for brides-to-be. Our first bride, Emily, is getting married on August 27, 2016, so she utilized our VIP services (which include touring our Manhattan offices and receiving a full day of pampering and wedding planning with our genius editors in our coveted fashion closet). Here, we share a little bit about her bridal experience at our Condé Nast offices in New York City.

Emily's day started with a delicious breakfast at our luxurious World Trade Center dining area (with a beautiful view of the city from top!) where she enjoyed a delicious made-to-order breakfast with one of our editors. From there, the bride-to-be was whisked away into our lace and tulle wonderland — the BRIDES fashion closet! Inside our wedding-planning sanctuary, shoes, dresses, and bridal jewelry galore are fit to be tried — all at the bride-to-be's disposal. BRIDES' Editor-in-Chief, Keija Minor, was there to greet her, and after enjoying some French macarons while chatting everything weddings, it was time to get serious.

And by serious, we of course mean having a morning mimosa and chatting with our expert hair stylist and makeup artist about an ideal wedding-day look! Emily opted for a half up/half down style with loose curls — accessorized with a beautiful crystal hair clip from our swoon-worthy accessories collection. Jewelry and accessory heaven, that's for sure.

After the major glam session, it was time for some shoes and wedding-dress fun (and modeling!). Before the BRIDES Private Access experience, Emily explained that she had no idea of what she was looking for dress-wise. "I came in only having pinned a few things on Pinterest and ripping out a few pages of a magazine." Luckily, our editors came to the rescue and helped her consider some styles to accentuate her best features and flatter her physique — with results that will definitely 'wow' her groom on the big day.

In the white dress wonderland, Emily perused the couture gowns and luxurious styles with the help of our fashion director, Elle Strauss, who stopped by to give some wedding-style tips. Our bride-to-be picked several styles to try — and of course her try-on sesh included a "Say Yes to the Dress" moment, where she picked her favorite!

"After trying on a few dresses, I knew exactly what I was looking for in a dress — and the editors gave good feedback about the color, silhouette, and style that flattered my body the most. When I went dress shopping a week later with my bridesmaids, I was a woman on a mission," Emily shared.

But that's not all: at the end of the morning, Emily was gifted a bridal gift bag that rivaled most VIP goodie bags, filled with wedding-planning tools, beauty products, and essentials as well as a Pinterest-inspired mood board for her wedding planning to come. "Wearing a beautiful wedding dress — with my makeup and hair done with all the accessories — was something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. The whole experience was magical; I was floating in the clouds the whole day!" Pristine, pampered, and prepared — that's how we like to leave our brides!
