When you're getting close to the end of your pre-wedding to-do list and you find yourself wondering what else you should do before its time to walk down the aisle, you may want to consider heading to a few of your favorite (or not so favorite) doctors. Even if you're feeling as good as could be, seeing your doctors for check-ups and even pre-wedding advice, might be a good way to feel even more healthy and anxiety-free before the big day comes around. Here are the five doctors you could consider booking an appointment with before your wedding day.

1. Dermatologist
If you're wondering what you can do to get your skin looking good before the wedding, book an appointment with your dermatologist who may be able to set you up with a proper pre-wedding regime. They may even be able to give you a quick fix for any day-of breakouts.

2. Allergist
If your wedding is mid-allergy season or even outdoors, head to your allergist for a game plan of how to get through the day without coughing and sneezing.

3. Gynecologist
If you're planning on changing your contraceptive method when you get married, whether that means going on the pill or off the bill, or trying something new, it may be a good idea to visit your gynecologist and talk through this with them.

4. Dentist
Visiting your dentist should be a top priority, whether it's for a routine cleaning or for a teeth-whitening appointment. You may need dental work that could take a couple of appointments to do, so book this appointment as early as you can.

5. General Practitioner
You may also want to consider adding a General Practitioner to the top of your list to talk about any health concerns or questions that you have. You can also consult with them about any specialists you'd like to see before your wedding.

Meditation Tips for Brides

When it comes to planning for the big day, looking and feeling beautiful is at the front of every bride's mind. However, it can also create a lot of stress to look absolutely perfect on the special day. We'll try almost anything, spending thousands of dollars on products, the newest treatments, laser, surgery, and so forth, all in the name beauty. And trust me, I am a natural-beauty junkie and love to experiement with the latest and greatest. But the most important tool I have added to my beauty ritual is meditation.

Stress is the number one beauty killer. When we're stressed out, it shows. If you put your most stressed out friend next to another friend who is care-free and happy, you notice the difference immediately. From dark circles, puffy face and eyes, dull skin, frown lines, acne, to even weight gain, stress shows up on our faces and bodies in so many difference ways. If we don't handle the stress, it doesn't matter what we use on our skin.

Science has proven many, many benefits to meditation, such as higher levels of happiness, better sleep, lower blood pressure, and improved immune systems. The reason meditation is your greatest beauty tool is because it's your ticket to destressing, every single day, as many times a day as you want. Beauty, real beauty, is when you're able to shine from the inside out. But if you're not really feeling good about yourself — physically and/or emotionally — then that light gets quite dim. Meditation help us choose better thoughts about ourselves. All day long we engage in thoughts like "I'm not perfect, I'm not pretty enough, I'm not skinny enough, I'm not good enough," all of which put even more stress on our minds and bodies. When we add meditation into our lives, we can begin to put the more negative thoughts to rest and choose positive thoughts. More positivity brings less stress, more happiness, and in turn, infintely more radiance. Here is a simple meditation you can add into your daily routine and is the perfect meditation to take with you all the way to the big day:

One-Minute Breath
The goal of this meditation is to breath one breath per minute, which means inhaling for 20 seconds, holding for 20 seconds, and exhaling for 20 seconds. However, to those who are just starting their meditation practice, start with a 5:5:5 ratio for the first few days, slowly building to 10:10:10, 15:15:15, and eventually, after a few weeks of practice, 20:20:20. Don't push yourself here. If you can't do more than 5 seconds each, you're not a failure! Most of us breath so shallowly that our diaphragms are really tight and we can't take a full breath. So when we slowly practice breathing deeper, we train the diaphragm, which is the major muscle of breathing, to help us take deeper and fuller breaths, which provide numerous benefits to our physical body.

How to do it:

  • Sit in a comfortable position.

  • Inhale for 5 seconds.

  • Hold the breath for 5 seconds.

  • Exhale for 5 seconds.
  • Time:

  • 3-11 minutes
  • Benefits:

  • Creates a sense of calm in the body

  • Clears anxiety, fears, and worry's

  • Brings fresh oxygen to the brain

  • Oxygenates the lungs and purifies the blood, which also in turns helps to clear your skin

Why One Bride Is Not Shedding For Her Wedding

Why Brides Are Not Dieting for Weddings

    Photo: Getty Images

'You'll want to get that in a size smaller to accommodate for the weight you'll lose before your wedding,' the sales assistant said as I stood in just my thong waiting for her to help me in to my favorite wedding dress of the day.

'Oh, er OK,' I stammered back as I stared more self-consciously at my reflection in the mirror.

I'm a size US 6 and UK 10. I don't think I'm overweight, but I don't have a six pack. I run marathons, I work out regularly, I eat mostly right. Is this what the sales assistant tells every future bride? Are there girls more petite than me being effectively told to diet, or those who are more conscious of their weight after having it highlighted for all browsing nearby to hear?

And what if the smaller sized dress, the US size/UK size 8, didn't fit during my final fitting next year? The big sign in the changing rooms announced that it would be my liability, my fault, if that happened, and the store accepted no responsibility.

After leaving the shop and ranting over my Shakshuka with a side of toasted sourdough, I went for a run to clear my head.

I felt great as I clocked up 5 miles at an 8-minute mile pace and realised that this was how I wanted to feel on my wedding day. You're supposed to feel special in your wedding dress, on one of the most special days of your life, not hungry and over-exercised. I love feeling strong, fit and healthy, not just 'thin.' And dieting to get to a specific size is not going to make me feel good.

I want to get married looking like me, the best version of me. I don't want to look back in years to come and find the girl in the white dress unrecognisable. Although don't get me wrong, I would like people to comment about how awesome my back and arms look in my v-back dress. If anything, I want to add muscle.

My fiancé loves me as I am.

That's why he's asked to spend the rest of his life with me — despite my oversized collection of activewear, my tendency to get up around 6 a.m. even on weekends and the fact that I plan our vacations around marathons. He isn't marrying me for my thin legs but for my determination to push those legs faster and faster on my runs.

So, lady, no, I won't be ordering my dress in a smaller size (or from you at all, in fact). I will order my size, the size I've been since I started running five years ago. I won't drastically diet or shed for the wedding. I will continue my regular workout regime, training for three marathons in the months preceding my wedding, and I will eat to fuel and nourish my body through those workouts.

Plus, who wants to get married when they're hangry?

3 Couples Who Had a Fitness-Inspired Wedding Ceremony

If fitness is an important part of your life, you're likely hoping that your other half will also be as into working out as you are. After all, working out as a couple comes with lots of benefits: it builds the connection the two of you have with each other, builds a sense of camaraderie and, yes, it also makes for a steamier sex life.

So when you do finally meet your swolemate, what better way for the two of you to tie the knot than with a ceremony inspired by your favorite way to stay fit? That's exactly what these couples did. While most wedding planning involves a white dress, a sit-down dinner and dancing, these couples had something a bit different in mind. Read on for the most inventive fitness themed wedding ceremonies to ever happen, from Nama-saying yes (sorry, had to) to saying "I do" at a mud run.

    Alix & André
"My husband and I got married at our yoga studio in Chicago. We hired our yoga teacher to teach us a yoga class, and then we had a ceremony, with just us and one friend who took photographs. Our studio has super high ceilings and hardwood throughout, and the sunlight was shining through on a very warm January day. The teacher we hired actually taught a group of judges at the courthouse downtown and asked one of them to officiate the ceremony. It was the first time he married a couple in his socks! It was perfect."

    Krissie & Paul
"The moment Paul and I met, we knew there was something special between us. Immediately, we found out we both had a love of running obstacle course races and working out. It wasn't long after our first date that we ran our first Mud Run together. We had the time of our lives! When the time came for our wedding, we knew we wanted something unique, which incorporated everything we held dear to our hearts. The moment the decision to say our vows at our favorite obstacle race (Monster Challenge) was made, our MudRunFun family came together to give us our perfect day. In a matter of minutes, we had a volunteer officiant, cake, decorations and approval by the race director. The day was everything we hoped it would and more. Our families came to the wedding, and even surprised us by running with us as a married couple. We were not only able to seal our love, but we were able to introduce obstacle course racing to the people in our lives, and give them some awesome memories to take home. The day was perfect, and an added bonus was that it was on Halloween!"

    Christina & Oliver
"Oliver and I were set up on a blind date by our wonderful friends. For that first date, we met in the gym where Oliver worked. Since the first week of our relationship, we've enjoyed working out together. We've completed multiple partner competitions and obstacle course races together. We always have a great time encouraging one another and watching each other achieve new personal records. We are both actively involved and employed in the fitness industry, and believe that fitness is a core pillar for a happy, healthy, long life. Sharing our individual experiences and helping others to reach their health and wellness goals means a great deal to both of us. We went to the Reebok Crossfit Games for a vacation in 2015. We had already booked our flights, hotel, purchased tickets, etc. for 2016, when we got the news that we won a Reebok-sponsored wedding at the 2016 games. We decided to enter the contest because our trip to the games in 2015 was the best vacation we had ever taken together. We had a blast. We got engaged in June 2016 and thought, 'Wow, getting married in our favorite place, at our favorite sporting event? Why not?'"

If there's one thing that can be said about wedding planning — no matter how much you love or hate it — is that it's stressful. And that stress is often equated with business. Let's face it — from gown fittings to hitting the gym for your wedding day bod, brides-to-be are always on the go (and that's not to mention the non-related wedding aspects of life like work, friends, and of course, spending time with the fiancé). In between it all, it's easy to forget to eat and when you finally remember, you're starving and consequently turn to the first thing around you, putting yourself at more likelihood to consume unhealthy foods.

As Rania Batayneh, MPH author of The One One One Diet: The Simple 1:1:! Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss says, "grab and go is the name of the game." She shares nine nutritious and delicious portable snacks you can pop right in your purse to munch on in between appointments to bring your energy levels up.

    Portable Snack Ideas Avocados

    Photo: Courtesy of Wholly Guacamole

    1. Avocados
"Avocados are an incredibly nutritious snack loaded with heart healthy good-for-you fats," says Batayneh. "Guacamole is a great snacking option and pairs perfectly with veggies like celery, broccoli, and carrots." Don't have the time to make your own? Try Wholly Guacamole's 100 Calorie Cup Minis. Available in easy peel and serve cups, they're free of preservatives.

    Portable Snack Ideas Chickpeas

    Photo: Courtesy of Saffron Road

    2. Chickpeas
According to Batanyeh, this can be a great alternative to trail mix or chips. Still want that savory crunch? Crunchy Chickpeas by Saffron Road is where it's at. Each serving boasts six grams of protein, five grams of fiber, and 3.5 grams of fat. Batanyeh's favorite? The Korean BBQ flavor.

    Portable Snack Ideas Shakes

    Photo: Courtesy of Orgain

    3. Shakes
"For those of you who like to refuel with a beverage, a shake is the way to go," says Batanyeh, who is a huge fan of Orgain Organic Nutritional shakes. "With sixteen grams of organic protein and twenty-three vitamins and minerals, these shakes help keep hunger satisfied and are a great recharge after a workout. They even have an Iced Café Mocha flavor to replace your second (or third) latte!"

    Portable Snack Ideas Strawberries

    Photo: Courtesy of Sunkist

    4. Strawberries
Best cold, strawberries may seem like a difficult on-the-go snack — but, your options aren't limited to the fruit in its simplest form. Batanyeh recommends Sunkist Fruit Chips Crunch Strawberry. Never baked or fried, these snacks are made with the single ingredient of strawberries and void of added sugar or flavors other dried fruit snacks may contain, she says, adding, "This snack is the closest thing to fresh when you need an easy, on-the-go fruit fix. With four grams of fiber [per] serving, these chips are also high in Vitamin C, which may help to boost your immunity, keeping you healthy leading up to the big day." She suggests pairing them with a cheese stick for a perfectly balanced snack.

    Portable Snack Ideas Greek Yogurt

    Photo: Courtesy of Daiya

    5. Greek Yogurt
If you're lactose intolerant or just avoiding dairy altogether, you can still enjoy the delights of Greek Yogurt with Daiya's plant-based, dairy-free Yogurt Alternative, which boasts eight grams of protein. "Made with plant protein from peas as well as real fruit in each container, this is a snack that will help satisfy cravings without sacrificing taste," says Batanyeh. The blueberry flavor also contains antioxidants, which Ratanyeh says are good for your memory.

    Portable Snack Ideas Rojo

    Photo: Courtesy of Rojo

    6. Salsa
Another great dip option for tasty low-cal snacking, salsa pairs perfectly with veggies and tortilla chips. Batanyeh is particulary fond of Rojo's Single-Serve Salsa, as it's made with fresh tomatoes, onions, and spicy peppers and is conveniently portioned to enjoy anywhere. Bonus: They also contain health benefits such as antioxidants like lycophene and Vitamin C, points out Batanyeh, who recommends popping one in your lunch bag to enjoy with a taco salad.

    Portable Snack Ideas KIND Bars

    7. Nuts
Find nuts a bit dry and boring? There's a fix for that... Find them in an energy bar. Pick up a Nuts & Spices Bar from KIND Healthy Snacks. Complete with five grams of sugar or less, they're high in fiber, made with all natural ingredients, and are gluten-free. As Batayneh, who says, "This snack hits the spot!" points out, they're a sweet alternative to the vending machine at work.

    Portable Snack Idea Hummus

    Photo: Courtesy of Sabra

    8. Hummus
What's a list of nutritious foods without everyone's favorite snack? Before you think hummus is a messy food to take on the run, try Sabra's portable hummus with pretzels. "[It] will give you that crunch and creaminess that you are looking for," says Batanyeh. "With seven grams of protein and four grams of fiber, this snack will fill you up and not out!"

    Portable Snack Idea Toasted Coconut

    Photo: Courtesy of barkTHINS

    9. Toasted Coconut
This snack is just plain yum, especially when in the form of barkTHINS toasted coconut with almonds and sea salt. "Fair trade dark chocolate and non-GMO verified ingredients will have you dreaming of that tropical honeymoon in no time," says Batanyeh, who points out that the re-sealable pouches make an easy travel companion and allows for portion control and snacking on your own terms.

How to Avoid Post-Weddding Bloat — While Still Enjoying Your Honeymoon

Fitness and Health, Honeymoons, Honeymoons & Destination Weddings, Wellness  Comments Off on How to Avoid Post-Weddding Bloat — While Still Enjoying Your Honeymoon
    Oct 102016

Tips to Avoid Bloating on Your Honeymoon

    Photo: Getty Images

You've worked hard for your bridal body, and have successfully looked and felt your best for your big day. Don't let your honeymoon indulgences leave you feeling bloated, sluggish, or as though you've undone all your hard work. Indulge, and still feel (and look) great with these tips to avoid post-wedding bloat while happily honeymooning.

    Stay Hydrated
When in doubt, drink. Water that is. While guzzling H20 might not sound appealing if you're feeling a bit bloated, it's super important. Being properly hydrated can help flush out toxins and leave you feeling more energized and alert. Add some fresh lemon to a glass of water for a diuretic effect that keeps your vitamins intact, but can help to detox your system. (This is best done in the AM when you wake up, on an empty stomach.)

    Indulge Moderately
Anyone who's ever worn stretchy pants to Thanksgiving knows that overindulging and eating too much is a guaranteed way to leave you feeling less than your best. After working diligently to achieve your healthy wedding bod and fitness goals, of course you deserve to indulge on your honeymoon — just do so in moderation. Avoid heaping portions and endless buffets and instead, pick your favorites and avoid seconds. (But please be sure to live a little!)

    Sweat it Out
Exercise does wonders for your mood, energy, and general well-being. If you're feeling sluggish or puffy, the easiest solution is to sweat it out. This doesn't mean you have to spend precious honeymoon hours in the gym — just lace up your sneakers and head out to explore your surroundings with your new husband, or go for a long swim in the pool or ocean. Just sneaking in a bit of cardio will leave you feeling at least a little better than if you did nothing at all — so get moving!

    Avoid Carbonation
Seltzers, sodas and beer, oh my. As much as you might love these standard bar-beverages, they can leave you feeling gassy and full. By steering clear of anything too bubbly (champagne on a honeymoon is a given, obvs...) you can prevent that uncomfortable feeling in your stomach, and from being a burping, belching new bride.

See More: How to Get Flatter Abs in Time for Your Wedding (Hint: It's Not Crunches!)

    Steer Clear of Gassy Foods
Certain foods are infamous for their inflammatory, gas-inducing qualities. Beans, fatty foods, legumes, fructose, and some whole grains can lead to intestinal gas and pressure which can leave you uncomfortable. We're not saying you have to completely avoid these, just be sure to keep an eye out that you're not over consuming gas-producing ingredients to keep your stomach happy.

    Drink Smart
Added sugars and frozen drinks can leave you feeling full and sluggish. Of course you're going to enjoy a cocktail (or three) on your honeymoon — but to beat the bloat, just be smart. Avoid super sugary or syrupy drinks and opt for lower sugar (and calorie) options such as clear liquors and mixers, natural juices and garnishes, and those served over ice instead of creamy frozen concoctions.

    Peppermint
It's been said that peppermint and peppermint oil can help reduce bloating and can help to calm the digestive system. A cup of peppermint tea before bed can do wonders for de-bloating, and is naturally refreshing yet relaxing, too. (It will also leave you with fresh, minty breath — perfect for all those honeymoon makeout sessions.)
