He speaks! Russell Brand opened up about marriage to Katy Perry on The Today Show this morning in a way he never has before. During an interview with Matt Lauer the comedian dished that he actually "loved" being married to Katy Perry for the 14 months that they remained hitched.

"I really enjoyed it," Brand said of the "Dark Horse" songstress. "Katy Perry is an amazing person."

And while he enjoyed their time together, he admits it wasn't always perfect and that real life got in the way. "What happened was after you get married, like anyone who's been married or come out of a relationship, you obviously have a lot of expectations," Brand added about their split post 2010 nuptials. "And if those expectations don't work out, then it's probably time to grow a big beard and walk around in pajamas. That's my advice."

After documenting the lead up to their divorce in her documentary Part of Me, Katy Perry, for her part too, has been quite vocal about her split from the British funnyman.

"Now I know — first and foremost, self-love, and then give love away," she recently told Rolling Stone. "Back then it was mostly just me giving love away with no self-love. I went through my 'return of Saturn,' is what they call it."

Though it ended, it seems like they learned a lot of important lessons from their relationship. They don't seem to be doing to shabby, either. Brand is busy promoting his new book Revolution, and Katy Perry was just named this year's Superbowl Halftime performer.

Katy Perry and John Mayer Split! So the Engagement We Hoped Would Happen…Won’t?

We were already dreaming about the wedding! After sporting a gorgeous, bling-y left-hand bauble that looked suspiciously like an engagement ring (again), and spurring engagement rumors (again), it now appears that the official engagement (and marriage!) we hoped would happen this year...won't. Multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly today that Katy Perry and John Mayer have officially called it quits. (E! News first reported the story.)

Though they recorded a super-romantic duet, "Who You Love," together last year (remember that gorgeous cover art?) and attended a Grammys after-party together last month, it appears that any hope of an all-out rock-and-roll wedding is gone, at least for now, due to busy work schedules.

One source told Us that Perry's upcoming Prismatic world tour became a logistical nightmare for the musical couple, who've been dating on and off since August 2012. "She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting," the source said. "It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done."

Mayer's own recent tour was another contributing factor. "They've had rough patches, but this may be for good," another insider added.

Even though they were never engaged, we can't be the only ones that were secretly hoping for (and planning!) a wedding for the couple. After her opulent first Indian wedding to Russell Brand in 2010, we predicted that she would don a funky, non-traditional wedding dress like this one, which she wore to the NRJ Music Awards in December, to wed Mayer. And given his recent transition to more country-like musical stylings, a rustic affair in Nashville would have been the perfect place for it.

Looks like we'll have to keep dreaming—knowing this couple, this might not be the last we hear from them!

All signs have been pointing towards engagement lately for on-again-off-again musical couple Katy Perry and John Mayer. The most recent rumor-sparking act? Perry was spotted leaving the couple's Valentine's Day celebration this past weekend rocking a conspicuous ring on that finger, People StyleWatch reports.

This isn't the first time Perry and Mayer have toyed with our hearts: Last Valentine's the "Dark Horse" singer showed off a one-of-a-kind Daniel Gibbings heart-shaped ruby ring gifted from her man. And just like the latest sparkler, she toted this gem on her left-hand ring finger, as well. Then, this past November, Perry was spotted wearing a cushion-cut ring on that same hotbed finger for the MTV EMA's. As much as it pains us to speculate yet again, maybe the third time's the charm?

We sure hope so! And it definitely seems like the couple's relationship has been heating up over the past few months. Back in November, Perry dished in W magazine's November issue that "I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time." Then, US Weekly reported it was "only a matter of time" until Mayer proposes. And how can we forget the steamy cover for their duet, "Who You Love?" (Never mind the music video, in which the pair ride a bull together while singing.) Mayer even tweeted this the day after Valentine's:

To put it simply: There's a reason we selected the pop-singing pair as a couple who we think will get engaged in 2014. And hopefully, this ring (which, from the shot on People StyleWatch, looks like an oval-cut, Art Deco-inspired bauble), means our prediction has come true.

We spent so much of 2013 wondering which engaged celebrity couple would get married next that we almost forgot another exciting guessing game: Which celeb duo will get engaged! We have a habit of predicting these momentous occasions (we saw Lauren Conrad's proposal coming way before her fiancé William Tell gave her that gorgeous engagement ring), and the start of 2014 means we have another fun year of peeking into our crystal ball. Below, the engagements we really hope to see this year!

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis

Now that Kutcher and Demi Moore are divorced, he and Kunis are reportedly this close to getting engaged. The pair of almost two years is one of our favorites; the former That 70's Show costars are longtime friends who always look comfortable and affectionate together and rarely make a spectacle of their love. According to People, their friends speculate that an engagement is likely. "He's set on proposing to Mila," a source close to the couple told the magazine in October. "He can't wait to start his life with her." Another Kutcher source said, "When Ashton first became a single man via separation, he was eager to date around. But that has changed since his relationship with Mila has grown and strengthened. His long-term friendship with her became a real romance, and he is very happy." That, plus their absolutely adorable flirtation at Kunis' brother's wedding in December only solidifies our theory—they will be engaged by April!

Make no mistake: These two singers are very much in love. Neither has even been known to be shy, and together, they're more than outspoken about their relationship. In an interview in the November issue of W, Perry confessed, "I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time." Though she attended the American Music Awards solo later that month, they released the cover art for their duet "Who You Love" not long after and cleared any suspicion of a split. The song has been out since August, and the lyrics sound like lovesick diary entries. Mayer's part includes words like, "My girl, she ain't the one that I saw coming / Sometimes I don't know which way to go / And I tried to run before but I'm not running anymore." During her section, Perry sings, "My boy he ain't the one that I saw coming / And some have said his heart's too hard to hold / And it takes a little time / But you should see him when he shines." Better yet, sources told Us Weekly that "Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose," which means we can look forward to a Kimye-worthy proposal sometime soon.

With Pippa Middleton and Nico Jackson's rumored engagement still something of a question mark, we have to look to another Royal-adjacent couple to get our fix. Ever since the prince and the dancer's romance started heating up in October, we've daydreamed about the funky, high-energy wedding we're sure the spirited couple will have. Though they reportedly spent the holidays apart, we wouldn't be surprised if the rumor mills really get churning in late April, around the time of Prince William and Kate Middleton's third anniversary.

Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy

Their May-December romance may have shocked some at first, but they're still going strong more than a year after they first stepped out as a couple. Last month, Olsen sparked serious talk of an imminent engagement when she was spotted making repeated visits to Neil Lane's Los Angeles boutique. "Mary-Kate has been seen several times in the last three weeks checking out huge engagement rings at the Neil Lane store. She really likes cushion-cut diamonds, and all of the rings she has looked at are over five carats," a Page Six source said at the time. "She has narrowed it down, but still hasn't made a final decision." Clearly, she's not just browsing! It sounds like one of our favorite former child stars and the half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy are prepping to have what could be an extremely intriguing wedding. We can't wait!

Katy Perry and John Mayer’s ‘Who You Love’ Video Proves Their Relationship Is Just Like Everyone Else’s

The nearly-engaged (we hope!) couple John Mayer and Katy Perry debuted the music video for their new single, "Who You Love," today on Good Morning America showcasing both their collective sense of humor (a mechanical bull, need we say more?) along with their admission that relationships—yes, even their's—can get bumpy.

In their first ever television appearance as a couple, Mayer and Perry showcased their creative collaboration and a surprising amount of nerves. Admitting they had reservations about working and appearing together, they playfully joked that viewers would think they have no chemistry because they were sitting too far apart.

"They'll see chemistry in the video," Perry said on Good Morning America, debunking the notion that the couple is anything but mad about each other.

And their music video, which features the celebrity duo and a serious of seriously-in-love real couples joyously riding a mechanical bull in slow motion, does just that.

But why the unusual costar? Perry explains, "Relationships are kind of like riding a bull—you hold on for dear life. Sometimes you get a little buck and here and there, but you get back on."

Recent interviews and the romantic cover photo for their single indicate that their relationship has been smooth sailing as of late. Though they've suffered their own hardships and heartbreaks, like Perry's recent divorce from comedian Russell Brand, the two have an optimistic outlook on the state of their relationship.

[John]'s just a fantastic partner," the singer-songwriter recently told Marie Claire. "I've been a fan of his for such a long time. He's got a brilliant, brilliant mind. It's a rad, mature relationship."

The sweetest shots in the video include real couples' triumph on the bucking bull, steamy kisses in the desert sand, and, of course, Perry and Mayer looking extra intimate while singing and gazing into the other's eyes.

As their relationship continues full steam ahead, we'll be hoping that the musical duo's next collaboration is a wedding—with a mechanical bull at the reception, of course.

We'll consider this a precursor to their engagement photos. On-again off-again musical power couple Katy Perry and John Mayer recorded the song "Who You Love" together for Mayer's newest studio album, Paradise Valley, over the summer, and the brand-new cover art for the single shows that who they love is each other.

The powerful, black-and-white photograph of the pair, shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti, is striking in its simplicity and lets their obvious affection for one another shine.

Mayer posted the photo to his Tumblr, along with the caption, "I'm excited to give you the first look at the single artwork for "Who You Love," shot by the great Mario Sorrenti. Get it at the iTunes Store, and then head over to Vanity Fair to see exclusive photos from the shoot. And yes, we look like this at home pretty much all the time."

Vanity Fair also shared the image, along with exclusive snaps from the rest of the photo shoot.

In August, Mayer discussed the love song, which had served as a PSA that the couple, who have been dating intermittently since August 2012, was back together. He told the AP that he hoped listeners would look past the singers' celebrity status. "If the music is framed correctly and quality," he said. "And if it's right and the soul is there, it would be the highest compliment to the record if somebody said or people said, 'I don't even think about it being [about] a relationship, I just hear it as a great song.'"

The beautiful song has been out since August, and the lyrics certainly achieve what Mayer was going for. His part includes words like, "My girl, she ain't the one that I saw coming / Sometimes I don't know which way to go / And I tried to run before but I'm not running anymore." During her section, Perry sings, "My boy he ain't the one that I saw coming / And some have said his heart's too hard to hold / And it takes a little time / But you should see him when he shines."

We predicted an imminent engagement for the tempestuous twosome back in October. That month, Perry confessed to W that, "I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time." Us Weekly, Perry may get to tie down her hunky boyfriend soon. "Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose," a source told the magazine. Even though she attended last week's AMAs solo, we're holding to our prediction.

Their photo shoot proved that their engagement photos, wedding photos, and pretty much everything else related to their wedding (pending an engagement, of course) will be hot.

Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and Other Celebs Flew Solo at Last Night’s AMAs! What Gives?

Last night's American Music Awards had a ton of musical highlights. Katy Perry opened the show with a slightly controversial performance of her new song "Unconditionally" (she was dressed up as a geisha), Justin Timberlake brought down the house with the lovelorn tune "Drink You Away," and Miley Cyrus sang the penultimate number, a head-scratching rendition of her hit "Wrecking Ball." No, really: A giant cat mouthed the lyrics as she sang the song in a tiny two-piece adorned in pictures of cats.

As much as we enjoyed the musical numbers, we spent much of the show pondering the absence of so many singers' significant others. As Perry belted out her song's romantic lyrics (i.e. "There is no fear now/Let go and just be free/I will love you unconditionally"), we scanned the crowd for her on-again-off-again boyfriend John Mayer, but he was nowhere to be found. Apparently, though, work called him elsewhere: Mayer is currently touring the country in support of his newest album, Born and Raised.

Later in the show, Timberlake collected several honors, including favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite soul/R&B artist. But as he leaped up from his seat to claim his trophies, his wife Jessica Biel wasn't there to give him a congratulatory kiss. Fans wasted no time calling out her absence on Twitter, to which the actress had a witty retort. "I'm watching from home tonight. Calm down, Internet," she Tweeted.

Not that we're too concerned about her stay-at-home evening. Two days before the AMAs, Biel attended a performance from her hubby's 20/20 Experience World Tour, and earlier this month, the pair attended Timberlake's former fellow 'NSYNCer Chris Kirkpatrick's wedding together. Besides, most married couples spend some nights out apart, especially if one spouse is more of a homebody than the other. It's perfectly healthy!

Other celebs who showed up solo included Naya Rivera (sans fiancée Big Sean), Ciara (who walked the red carpet without her fiancée, Future), Zoë Saldana (she showed up without new husband Marco Perego), and many others. It sounds like it was the night everyone decided to cut loose with friends!

Of course, we can't end there without mentioning more about Cyrus's emotional performance of "Wrecking Ball." It's been more or less confirmed that the ballad is about Liam Hemsworth, her former fiancée. Whether or not she's moved on from their breakup, she sounded remarkably emotional during the song. At least she had a furry friend nearby to console her.

Will John Mayer propose to Katy Perry

Photo: Getty Images

Katy Perry and John Mayer aren't married (nor are they even engaged), but they're beating the drums of betrothal louder and louder every day. As the on-again-off-again couple of more than a year enjoys the latest incarnation of their relationship, Perry dished to W on her longtime admiration of her singer beau—all the while, according to Us Weekly, Mayer might be planning an over-the-top proposal!

See more: Beautiful Wedding Veils in Every Length

In an interview in the November issue of W, Perry confessed, "I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time." How cute is that? We can't say we blame her; his antics and off-the-cuff interviews aside, he's written some super romantic songs that practically beg to be a bride and groom's first dance song.

According to Us Weekly, Perry may get to tie down her hunky boyfriend soon. "Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose," a source told the magazine.

The singers "realize they must be together," the source added, while another said, "They Skype and text all day. John always checks in before bed!"

If this is true (and boy, are we hoping it is), it means we're in for a star-studded celebration and a mega-glam wedding dress. Perry loves themes, from her decked-out red carpet looks to her luxe Indian wedding to comedian Russell Brand in 2010, and we can only imagine that her next wedding will be just as whimsical.

And thankfully, Perry's first marriage to Brand, which ended in divorce in February 2012, hasn't soured her to the idea of another union.

"I really loved it. It was a new, fun, exciting journey. But I like how I am now, and I think all things happen for a reason," she told W.

In that case, let the love songs and fun interviews continue!
