Jason Kennedy Opens Up About His First Year of Marriage with Wife Lauren Scruggs

Jason Kennedy and Lauren Scruggs are about to hit a major marriage milestone! The E! News co-host, who married his model and fashion blogger wife nearly one year ago, is sharing all the doting details — as well as the ups and downs — of newlywed life before his anniversary hits on December 12.

"Everybody talks about the first year and what it was like. It's incredible. Do you fight? Of course you do. Do you get to know each other better? Of course you do," Kennedy told People of his marriage at the Generosity.Org 7th Annual Night of Generosity gala in Los Angeles Friday. "There were so many more ups than downs. Just getting on the same page is fun."

The L.A. couple, who married at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Dallas last December, plan on celebrating their first anniversary in Big Sur, California. Kennedy joked about a "romantic" early arrival so he could stealthily, "Set up some candles and have E! News playing on repeat!"

Kennedy, 33, also dished that his 27-year-old wife has been adapting well to Los Angeles — Scruggs, a Texas native, bought a one-way plane ticket to L.A. to start her west coast life with Kennedy when they married. "It's a big deal when someone new comes into your life and moves and leaves her friends and family in Dallas, but we've been connecting," Kennedy said, adding that he and his wife "have a great community of friends out here. We have a good church. She's really been adapting well to L.A. I'm super proud of her."

The doting newlyweds, who initially connected over their importance of faith, plan on waiting, "another couple of years," before they, "start trying to have some little rugrats," Kennedy explained. "We have a lot of friends that have a lot of kids. They can't really go out and do a lot of things. So, we wanted to get that out of the way."

Sounds like these two are happy to simply bask in newlywed bliss for the time being! "I like being married. I like coming home to somebody at the house. I wish everybody could experience that," Kennedy said. "I hope they do in their life because it's the best feeling, honestly."

As many people know, faith is a very important part of my life. When Giuliana Rancic first told me about Jason's bible group and his Christian background, it was something that immediately drew me towards him.

Growing up, my dad taught me a lot about community, and as soon as I met Jason I saw so many connections between his sense of community and my dad's lessons. I've always put a lot of importance on having real, deep friendships. So, when I met Jason's friends and saw that he valued that same lifestyle, I knew it said a lot about him as a person. He's so real with everybody and all of his friends are so connected.

Since we both feel strongly about our faith, it was easy to find meaningful ways to incorporate Christianity into our wedding. My pastor from my hometown church, Matt, officiated the wedding, along with Judah Smith, a pastor in Seattle who has been one of Jason's mentors and good friends.

The ceremony itself was centered on our faith and we included music that reflected that. On my first night in the ICU after my accident, my worship pastor played the song "Restoration." I don't remember that happening, but it's like my brain knows every time I hear it. So we played that song — it's just little touches like that will really showed our journey.

Jason and I also chose a few special scriptures for our loved ones to read during the ceremony. Jason's friend and pastor, Carl Lentz, read one with his wife.

Since we focused our faith-oriented details during the ceremony, the reception was a true party.

Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on how she planned her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren documented every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.

Before I went wedding dress shopping, I created a Pinterest board, browsed designer galleries online, and pinned options that I loved.

I had a pretty clear idea of my dream dress: I knew that I wanted a mermaid style dress. It was important that it fit my body well, but I also wanted it to look like a wedding dress. It's a special day, so I wanted to take that moment to find something that felt so much more spectacular than just a normal dress.

My mom, my twin sister Brittany, and my best friend, Shannon, went to Stanley Korshak — which is a family-owned department store in Dallas — to try on dresses the first week after I got engaged. They carry every designer and showcase such beautiful gowns. That first day I tried on eight dresses, and I was really torn between two. One was just so pretty, but I didn't quite feel like me in it. As were about to leave, I asked if I could try on the other dress I was considering just one more time.

I put it on and I couldn't stop crying. I'm not a very emotional person. But it was this cry I couldn't hold in — I just loved it so much. I think that's how I knew it was the one. It's a beautiful, fitted mermaid wedding dress from Romona Keveza and it has layers of ivory and white, so it feels warm, romantic and very feminine.

An amazing designer from Dallas named Nardos Imam contacted me and asked if she could design a dress for me, but at that point I had already chosen my gown. So instead she made me a second dress to wear to my reception, and it was such a lovely experience. She created a light blush pink dress for me with a low back and beautiful big bow — it's so beautiful.

Finding my dress went pretty smoothly, but it's been a little more of a challenge with my bridal party. My twin sister is my maid of honor, and I'll have seven ladies total in my party. (Jason has 11 groomsmen, which we actually narrowed down from his original pick of 20!)

Picking a bridesmaid dress was actually harder than finding my own gown. We worked with Watters and we settled on a pretty sandy grey color.

Best day of my life! Can't wait to share our crazy journey with all of you next Monday night at 8/7c on E!

Initially, we picked a purple dress in a different silhouette. I emailed one of my bridesmaids a photo of the new dress, and she told me she was unsure about it. I really wanted all of my girls to love what they're wearing, so I asked her to come see it in person before I made any final decisions. Luckily, she loved it!

From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren documented every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.

For any couple, planning a wedding poses it's own unique set of challenges. But for us, balancing our work schedules, filming our show, The Kennedy Wedding: Jason and Lauren Get Married, for E!, buying a new home, and planning a wedding in Texas from L.A. meant that we really needed help focusing our ideas and bringing our dream to life.

We worked with our planner Todd Fiscus, and his help made a world of difference in our wedding-planning process. A family friend hired Todd for their own wedding and sung his praises, and once Jason and I met Todd we immediately knew that working with him would be a really great decision.

Before we started planning, I knew I gravitated toward the organic, elegant look with lots of neutrals. So I sent him my Pinterest board and he pitched ideas back, which was so helpful because I had pieces of ideas and he would put all the details into place.

His right hand woman, Angela, is so awesome and she and I emailed pretty much all day long. Having a team to help me made the whole process so enjoyable and easy.

One time Todd really came in handy was when it came to choosing my bridesmaid dresses. I was totally clueless about what color their gowns should be. I told Todd I liked neutrals and he came back with an amazing sandy shade (seen above) that looked perfect with our whole color scheme.

Of course, I had Jason, too! But I was more of the point woman in our planning. He was definitely involved, but he liked to handle bigger picture things and leave the details to me. (Find out how I got Jason excited about prepping for our big day here!)

Our real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, has told us all about the excitement leading up to her wedding day, but now her new husband Jason Kennedy has confessed he was thinking about their nuptials for a long time, too! In an interview with People, the E! News co-host explained how he had to fight back tears when he finally saw Scruggs walking down the aisle.

"This is a moment I imagined happening my whole life," he said. "It just felt so right with Lauren. I honestly thought I was going to lose it. My groomsmen were giving me a hard time. They were like, 'Don't do the ugly baby cry!'"

Scruggs walked down the aisle to Amos Lee's "Sweet Pea" which was more than enough to move the groom to tears. "I was just trying to not completely cry my eyes out," Kennedy said.

While the day was as magical and exciting as the pair could have imagined, it didn't come without its hiccups. Just two hours before the ceremony was set to begin, Kennedy's mom fell and dislocated her hip. "She was rushed to the emergency room and it took two surgeons to get her hip back in place," he explains. "Minutes before they opened the door for me to walk down the aisle with the pastors, my mom comes around the corner in a wheelchair with my dad pushing her." He sweetly said that she still looked like "a million bucks" despite her unintended wedding accessory.

Scruggs was overcome with emotion during the evening, too. "Everyone came to celebrate with us... and the effort that people was so special."

The pair is now enjoying a sunny beach honeymoon in Mexico, but for more scoop on their wedding day, check out Lauren's big-day blogs here!

Lauren Scruggs Shares How Jason Kennedy Was Involved in Wedding Planning

Meet our latest real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine, who overcame her own personal struggles after a plane accident. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on how she planned her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren documented every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.

I've heard plenty of brides say it's difficult to get their fiancé involved in wedding planning, but I was pleasantly surprised at how helpful Jason was through the entire process.

Of course, there are wedding things no guy will ever care about (like bridesmaid dress colors or table linens!), but Jason was excited to help make bigger picture decisions — from the music, guest list and rehearsal dinner location to even our invitations.

My biggest tip for other brides is to try and get your groom involved in tasks that you think he'd be interested in — and don't get upset when he doesn't have a major opinion on the smaller details. For Jason and I, it was a no brainer: He loves music. So he was so excited to choose songs for our walk down the aisle, first dance, and reception playlist.

He was also a huge help in planning our honeymoon. We booked a tip to the Rosewood Mayakoba in Mexico. So planning that aspect of the wedding was something we could work on together and enjoy without any stress.

But even when we couldn't go to vendor appointments together, it was important for me to make sure Jason felt like he was part of the process. For example, I went to Dallas for our food and cake tastings and Jason wasn't able to come because of work. So to make sure he was looped in, I texted him a bunch of photos of my favorites.

Another way to get your guy involved is to make it fun! Don't approach your fiancé with a stressful energy. Jason and I were careful not to let planning overwhelm us. And remember to take a break sometimes! We liked planning special date nights that didn't involve the wedding. It's a great opportunity to decompress with your future husband and focus on each other.

Her romantic wedding was just three days ago, but our real bride blogger Lauren Scruggs and her brand-new husband Jason Kennedy are already kissing wedding-planning stress goodbye now that they're on their honeymoon in Mexico.

People obtained their wedding portrait (click here to see it), which gives us our first glimpse at Scruggs in her Romona Keveza wedding dress and Kennedy lovingly holding her in his Tom Ford suit. Texas-native Scruggs wore her blonde hair down for her wedding, which took place at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

Todd Fiscus with Todd Events planned the whole day, which included 11 (!) groomsmen, as well as a dress change for Scruggs — she slipped into a simple, form-fitting dress designed by Nardos Imam, a local Dallas vendor, for the reception.

After "an amazing night," as Scruggs described it to People, the newlyweds jetted off to Mexico for their honeymoon. From there, Kennedy tweeted the photo seen above. The couple is staying at Playa del Carmen's luxe Rosewood Mayakoba, which happens to be on our list of the best honeymoon resorts for newlyweds in Mexico.

About his new wife, Kennedy told E! News, "God has blessed me with somebody I've been waiting for my whole life. Lauren changed everything for me and I can't believe I get to spend the rest of my life with her." Scruggs followed that loving sentiment with, "Jason has completely changed my life, and I could not be more thankful for who he is and how he loves me. I can't wait to spend forever with him."

Jason Kennedy and Lauren Scruggs have officially tied the knot! The E! News host and our new real bride blogger got married at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Collinas in Dallas on Friday night.

The bride showcased her killer sense of style by walking down the aisle in a Romona Keveza gown, arm in arm with her father who gave her away. She changed into a Nardos Imam dress for the reception. Kennedy was beyond handsome in a Tom Ford suit. Rings by William Noble Rare Jewels were exchanged by the happy couple while saying their vows.

Two pastors officiated the ceremony — Judah Smith and Matt Chandler. Naturally, the event was star-studded with some of the attendees including Kennedy's E! News co-stars Catt Sadler, Giuliana Rancic and husband Bill, and Terrence J, along with Tony Romo and wife Candice (son Hawkins served as the ringbearer), Kathie Lee Gifford, and Ken Baker.

Kennedy's best man, Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., has had his share of high-profile nuptials this year as he married Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in May.

As for the wedding's color palette, it was all about soft and romantic hues including blush, champagne, cream, ivory, and lavender with silver and charcoal accents. Scruggs was born in California, but raised in Dallas, so she chose one the city's local bands Cuvée to perform a cover of Keith Urban's beautiful tune "Making Memories of Us" while she and Kennedy had their first dance as husband and wife.

Meet our latest real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine, who overcame her own personal struggles after a plane accident. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on planning her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren is documenting every step of the big-day process for BRIDES.

Planning a wedding is overwhelming for any couple, but things are especially hectic for Jason and I since we're prepping a Texas wedding from California and moving into a new home at the same time.

To be honest, planning my wedding is less stressful than decorating my new house! Our home is a blank slate, which is exciting and fun, but also a lot of work. And sometimes I almost forget we're preparing for a wedding because our planner Todd Fiscus has been such a huge help.

But part of making it all work is just taking everything one day at a time. Plus, I always try to remember that I'm so thankful to be marrying Jason. I know that this whole crazy wedding-planning process is just temporary and life won't be like this forever. We support each other and understand that we're in this together.

Since every engaged couple deals with some form of stress, here are my three tips for balancing life, work and wedding planning:

1. Remind yourself that this is an amazing time in your life. In a lot of ways engagement is harder than marriage. Remember everything will settle down soon, but this is such a short period of time so you should make the most of it.

2. Make everything fun. I think, as a girl, you can easily cause something very little (like bone vs. ivory or letterpress vs. embossed!) to become very stressful. I've watched myself do that and Jason helps bring me back down to earth by saying, "Hey, it's not that big of a deal!" And he's right!

3. Keep a positive perspective throughout everything. If something begins to feel overwhelming, just say to yourself, "This is the guy I'm going to marry, we want to be in this together."

Meet our new real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on planning her winter wedding to E! News host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren is documenting every step of the big-day process for BRIDES. For her first installment, Lauren tells the story of she and Jason met, plus she's giving us a sneak peek at what's to come for her big day.

About three months after my accident, Giuliana Rancic messaged me on Twitter, while she was in the hospital recovering from her double mastectomy. She saw my story on The Today Show, and my job as a fashion reporter reminded Guliana a lot of her start as an entertainment host. She told her husband Bill that she saw so many similarities between the two of us. Guliana told him, "I want to reach out to her and let her know that this accident won't destroy her dreams and crush her passion."

Giuliana and I started talking and quickly became friends. Eventually, she asked me to come to California so we could finally meet in person.

After telling Giuliana how my faith helped me pull through my accident, she asked if I had heard of Jason Kennedy. At first she made it seem like she was setting us up from a work perspective — like he would be a good person to know in the industry since his faith plays a major role in his life, too — but she was clearly trying to play Cupid.

I wouldn't say it was an instant love connection, but there were sparks. After briefly meeting, Jason suggested a place for my mom and I to go hiking the next day since we weren't familiar with L.A. (I grew up in Dallas, Texas.) Jason gave me his number and asked me to text him if we went because he was going to be there with a friend. Needless to say, my mom and I went hiking and met up with Jason. After that, we began talking every day. We started officially dating Easter of 2013.

It's crazy because my accident, which can be perceived as such a negative experience, led me to meeting Jason, which is one of the best things to ever happen to me.

Lauren Scruggs and Jason Kennedy, Proposal

As for our engagement, I knew at some point he was going to propose — I just didn't know when it was going to happen. After all, I'm very hard to surprise (just ask Jason). But when he told me he was going away for a business trip, I thought nothing of it. I went out to dinner with one of my best friends, and then I returned to my apartment to find hundreds of white tulips and candles. I went on my balcony and saw, "Will You Marry Me?" spelled out in candles on the grass. It was the most special night of my life.

Since then, we've been getting ready for our big day with the help of our wedding planner Todd Fiscus. We're returning to my hometown of Dallas to tie the knot later this month. The whole day will be very elegant and family oriented.

I hope that my story brings encouragement to other people. A lot of mothers of children with one arm or similar situations always tell me they hope their daughters will find someone like Jason — and I think it's such a normal fear. So I hope our story helps bring peace of mind to other people.

Stay tuned for more of Lauren's blogs! Next week, she reveals how she manages to balance work, life and wedding planning.
