There's a lot more that goes into building a wedding registry than simply selecting the prettiest items in a store. While there's something to be said for registering for all of the basics, we also love finding housewares that will help you start newlywed life on a stylish note. Enter our sponsor Williams-Sonoma. We've long loved this one-stop registry shop for their go-tos, like classic dinnerware and kitchen gadgets, but also for the brand's chic statement pieces. Currently, though, we're especially obsessed with their copper goods.

From flatware to furniture, Williams-Sonoma offers tons of luxe copper picks that are the perfect way to give your registry a glam upgrade. For your kitchen, start with a set of heavy-gauge copper cookware, which are favored by pro-chefs for their exceptional ability to distribute heat quickly and evenly. A gorgeous copper tea kettle will not only look great atop your stove, but it will also add a fun melody to your kitchen thanks to its two-tone Hohner harmonica whistle.

If you and your husband-to-be are big entertainers, serve tasty cocktails in copper mugs or start the party by imbibing from tin-lined shot glasses made from the metal. Then, take the party outside and keep drinks cool in a copper party tub while nibbling on delicious bites made in this seriously stunning fondue pot.

From kitchen essentials, like deep canisters for cooking and baking necessities, to beautiful tools, like a copper hand trowel that will surely make even mundane chores exciting, shop all of our favorite Williams-Sonoma copper picks below.

For a couple that already has all their household essentials in place, standard registries can sometimes feel a bit lackluster (how many coffee makers can one duo collect?). While it's great to have a round up of practical gear on the list, many couples (and guests who want to give a more unique gift) are looking to smaller, specialty stores to accent their registry.

Located down a tree-lined street in New York City's East Village lies John Derian: a tiny, rambling shop that is a treasure trove of home goods, whimsical stationery and elegant entertaining pieces. With a style that skews eclectic and handmade (but still chic), the store offers a wide range of products from around the world, including handmade decoupage plates, delicate pottery imported from France, and bright Moroccan poufs.

John Derian Dry Goods (their sister storefront next door) is a textile-lover's dream. Colorful block-printed pillows from India are stacked next to striped linen napkins and tablecloths. And for the couple looking to invest in larger pieces for their new home, the store offers its own line of perfectly sized armchairs, chaises and sofas upholstered in Belgian linen or velvet.

Here, we rounded up a few of our favorite finds from the store. Register for them using a unviversal registry program like Blueprint and Thankful, or if you're based in New York City call (212) 677-3917 to schedule an appointment with a sales associate.

Above: 1. Decorative pillows, starting at $100, John Robshaw at John Derian; 2. "String" large print, $480, Hugo Guinness at John Derian; 3. "5 of Hearts" decoupage glass plate, $70, John Derian; 4. Moroccan Pouf, $295, John Derian; 5. "Purple Aster" decoupage glass plate, $62, John Derian; 6. "Pond" upholstered chaise lounge, starting at $2,955, John Derian.

When it comes time to register beyond the basics, there's no better place to look than Etsy. Although it can be somewhat overwhelming if you're not a Etsy-search pro, there are some amazing hidden gems if you're willing to dig. Here, we did some of the work for you by spotlighting a few of our favorite finds from the handmade section.

For the truly unique couple, we're obsessed with these gold-and-white leg mugs — quirky indeed, but sleek and modern too! Need a catchall for your jewelry? Add a little edge to that girl vanity of yours with this hand-shaped bowl.

For the color hungry pair, this geometric, sunshine yellow chair would look perfect on a balcony — or even decked out with pillows and a cozy throw in your living room. Keep the ultra-modern vibe going with this pendant lamp. And for your future summer dinner parties, this festive, teal, hand-blocked tablecloth will help set the mood.

If you that still have that quilt your mom made you in high school out of a bunch of your old t-shirts (you know who you are), it's time to put it in storage and replace it with this super chic, minimalistic geometric linen quilt. And finally, the true sign of adulthood: buying a time-telling device that isn't your iPhone. Enter, this sleek monochromatic black clock.

But one of the best things about the handmade section of Etsy is knowing that what you're getting is one of a kind, and most likely not something you've seen a million times on blogs or at your friends' apartments.

Above: 1. "Nodo," modern lounge chair, $520, Petrified Design; 2. Wall Clock, modern, handmade wood clock, $46, Zest Strategy Design; 3. Porcelain jewelry dish,, $49, Sculpture in Design; 4. Besides all the big box stores you have to hit up when you register for the basics (and sometimes beyond), it's fun to also peruse some of the smaller more niche stores for extras that will round out your registry. Leif has its brick and mortar in Brooklyn, but it's also a popular online destination for unique and colorful home goods that are handmade (or have that vibe).

Besides the usual décor suspects, like tableware and soft goods, Leif also carries some beautiful original art, as well as prints ready for framing. (Art is such a good thing to register for, something brides often forget about!) We love this watercolor print — beside the poppy, happy colors, it also comes in several large-scale sizes that are the perfect solution if you want an easy statement piece in your new home.

Among the tableware, we love this lotus pitcher for its sleek Scandinavian design, and these bronze bamboo spoons that would just look perfect peeking out of a cup of coffee. Plus, we're loving the serving set thanks to the polka dot-wood combo. Also, this super modern triangle soap would look beautiful in a pretty little soap dish in your guest bathroom. If you're in need of extra storage, this woven basket is a far cry from your standard under-the-bed plastic container. Lastly, check out the bright woven rug, which also doubles as a blanket.

Though Leif doesn't have it's own wedding registry, there are tons of online sites that offer universal registries like Blueprint.

Above: 1. Bolivian Frazada Rug/Blanket, $288; 2. Lotus Pitcher, $88; 3. Bronze Bamboo Spoons, $12; 4. Equilateral Soap, $10; 5. Confection Woven Basket, $64; 6. Batik Serving Utensil Set, $40; 7. "So Mysterious" Print, $44.
